Brew and View at Krypto Lounge

Last Sunday night I wandered downtown to Kryptonite after hearing about the Kryptonite Brew and View. They were playing two Tim Burton classics - Big Fish and Edward Scissorhands. Many people have a fond memory of Edward Scissorhands, complete with the quirky sets, unique hairstyles, bright colors and the excellence of Johnny Depp. Fewer, however, are as familiar with the amazing tall tale of an old salesman's life as portrayed by Albert Finney and, as his younger self, Ewan McGregor in Big Fish - one of my all-time favorite films.

Heading down to Kryptonite on a Sunday, I wasn't certain what to expect. I walked in at 7pm and spotted a couple familiar faces playing the classic Chinese game "Go" who invited me to sit down and play a game or two. They tell me about a group of Go players that meet on Sundays for a series of games, occasional tournaments and discussing game strategy.

As we play our last game, the first movie begins and people slowly stream into the bar, order a drink or two, and settle into the soft seats around the plasma screen. In all, twenty or thirty kids from 25 to 30 come to see both shows. It's a good atmosphere, people generally chatty between movies, friendly but polite enough not to talk over the film.
